Talking is an essential tool to communicate with others in our daily lives.

Just as words can win other people’s hearts and maintain good relationships, they are essential communication tools in our lives.

By the way, depending on how you say the same thing, you can hurt others and be seen as a good person.

Although the change may be subtle, it does make a difference.

One way to change people’s mind with a tone of voice: Even a penny technique

The human mind is significantly affected by the strangely trivial differences in speech.

Professor Edwin Gross showed Chicago citizens a pen and a pencil in the name of marketing research and said, “how much do you like these products?” and 36.1% said they liked them.

A few days later, he asked, “How much do you hate these products?” and the percentage dropped to 15.6%.

Even though the questions are exactly the same, if you ask the question “What do you like about them?” then more people will say they like them. On the other hand, if you ask, “What do you hate about them?” then more people will say they hate them.

When you ask for something, make small changes in your tone, and make small requests first to be more effective.

Professor Robert Cialdini from the University of Arizona made the request during a visit to the 84 houses.

“I am from the American Cancer Association, so please join me in the fundraising for the association. A penny will do.”

Then, 58.1% of the households were willing to make a donation and donated an average of 35,000 won.

For your information, when he didn’t say “a penny will do”, only 32.2% participated and the average was 23,000 won.

If you say “…will do”, when making a request, it increases the probability that the other person will respond to it and do you the favor beyond what was asked.

“Can you help me just for five minutes?” If you ask this way, most of the time, people will help you for even more than 10 minutes.

This method is highly validated and is called the “Even a penny” technique.

It’s so powerful that even people who know it can get entangled easily.

The reporter calls to ask for a good comment, as he says, “I don’t mind a word.”

We’re driven by the mind.

And our mind is driven by words.

So, if you understand the psychology that moves your mind change your voice tone a little bit, wouldn’t it make your relationships with others and your career even better?
